PROJECT STORY
PROJECT CHARACTER
Historic architecture. Renewed life.
CONCEPT & DELIVERY
On behalf of the owners, PEMA led the revitalisation of Vienna’s listed Haus am Schottentor. The project, completed in 2021, combines around 24,500 m² of historic banking architecture with new uses including retail, fitness and offices. Heritage and modern building technology were developed together.
More about the project
Built between 1910 and 1912, this former bank on Vienna’s Ringstrasse combines grand interiors with a central urban address. In 2016, the owners commissioned PEMA to revitalise the property.
Working with heritage specialists, the project restored historic rooms, renewed building services and introduced new uses. INTERSPAR moved into the former banking hall and a fitness facility into the former vaults. Offices complete the approximately 24,500 m² building.
Historic marble surfaces, fine wood finishes and embossed leather wall coverings were retained and carefully restored. The new uses were integrated into the former bank’s distinctive rooms while preserving their character.
The revitalisation was completed in 2021. In 2019, the property received ÖGNI/DGNB Gold pre-certification. Final DGNB Gold certification was issued by ÖGNI on 7 December 2022.
